Passport: A passport is the most universally accepted form of identification for international travel. Most cruise lines require passengers to have a valid passport that doesn't expire within six months of the cruise's end date. Even if you're traveling on a closed-loop cruise (departing and returning to the same U.S. port), having a passport is strongly recommended as it's the safest and most hassle-free option.

Government-Issued Photo ID: In addition to a passport, you may need a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or state ID card. This is especially important for domestic cruises or cruises that include ports of call within the same country.

Visas: Depending on your nationality and the countries you'll be visiting during your cruise, you may need a visa. It's essential to check the visa requirements for each port of call on your itinerary well in advance of your cruise departure date. Your cruise line or a travel agent can provide guidance on visa requirements.

Birth Certificate: Some closed-loop cruises departing from and returning to the same U.S. port may accept a government-issued birth certificate in lieu of a passport. However, this option is less secure and may cause delays or complications if unexpected situations arise during the cruise. It's always best to travel with a passport if possible.

Other Documents: Depending on your cruise itinerary and specific circumstances, you may need additional documents such as travel insurance information, vaccination records, or parental consent forms for minors traveling without both parents.
